SLipknot New Mask, check This out!!!

On July 1, Slipknot, the Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum nine man hard rock enigma, will unveil its new imagery in an exclusive partnership with AOL Music, the web’s most trafficked online music destination. This highly anticipated debut kicks-starts the launch of Slipknot’s new album, All Hope Is Gone, which is set for release on Roadrunner Records on August 26th. Masks are an integral part of the band’s identity and to reflect this point, AOL Music’s Spinner.com will host a retrospective photo gallery of Slipknot masks throughout their career, spanning all three previous albums and including the most recent controversial ‘Purgatory Masks’. The Slipknot mask unveiling will be featured on the main page of Spinner.com worldwide for 24 hours.

The latest masks are creepier and more intricate than ever — some evoking the chilling countenance of film horror figures like Hannibal Lecter and Pinhead. Not kidding. So feast your eyes on the new collection, then take a trip back in time with pics of every mask worn by the band throughout its career.

Superbly photographed by the ever-amazing P.R. Brown the new masks looks positively amazing. Much more intricate than previous versions and hopefully, (fingers crossed) - the new music can match up to the image.

Profile - Slipknot

SLIPKNOT History

Early years (pre-1998)

Early formations of a band were beginning to form as early as 1992 with the core band members, drummer Shawn Crahan, vocalist Anders Colsefini, and bassist Paul Gray enlisting the help of guitarists Donnie Steele and Quan Nong.

In September 1995, the band The Pale Ones was created comprising Crahan on drums, Gray on bass, Colsefini on vocals and guitarist Steele.Joey Jordison joined the band shortly after, taking up the role of drummer and, subsequently, Crahan moved to percussion. The band continued to develop their vision of what the band would be, deciding to add a second guitarist, recruiting Josh Brainard and moving Colsefini to percussion along with lead vocals. The band played their first live performance under the name of Meld on December 4, 1995 at a club called Crowbar in Des Moines.Soon after, Jordison suggested renaming the band "Slipknot" after their song that eventually appeared on Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat..The band also began experimenting with their image, wearing grotesque make up and eventually the anti-image concept developed towards the members wearing masks.Up until this point, the band had remained mainly obscured due to their desire to wait until their music was fully developed.

With plenty of material ready, the band began recording in a local studio, SR Audio with Sean McMahon. In February 1996, guitarist Steele left the band due to his Christian beliefs; though the other band members were prepared to allow him to stay, Steele decided to leave. His replacement, Craig Jones, arrived during the mixing stages of this new project. On April 4, Slipknot played their first public performance at Des Moines reggae club the Safari, where they played most of their early gigs.Their second gig at the Safari was alongside Stone Sour. The band began to realize again that there was need for a change, as they were adding samples to their recordings but could not produce these sounds live.Subsequently, Jones moved to full-time sampler and Mick Thomson was brought in to fill the space on guitar.[14] After conflict over the mixing and mastering, the band self released their first album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. on Halloween, October 31, 1996.

With the production of this album, Sean McMahon began distributing it between record and management companies, which resulted in airplay on local radio and, in turn, won a spot at Dotfest. Slipknot had returned to the studio having developed new material, which demanded more vocal melody. As a result, Corey Taylor was recruited from fellow Des Moines band Stone Sour; this moved Colsefini to backing vocals and percussion. While experimenting with their new vocalist, the band continued to do shows at the Safari club, during one of which Colsefini surprised his band and fans alike announcing on stage that he was leaving the band.[10] The gap on percussion was the filled by Greg Welts, who was affectionately known as "Cuddles".  Towards the end of 1997, the band was assigned individual numbers respectively and began wearing uniform coveralls at their shows.

In early 1998, the band created another small demo, which included "Spit It Out". The Slipknot Demo was sent to many record labels and, along with a growing popularity on the Internet and help from their then manager Sophia John, interest grew from record labels and eventually producer Ross Robinson was contacted. The band, which had a strong interest in working with Robinson, met with him and it was then decided they would work together. Soon after, DJ Sid Wilson was brought in to the band after showing great interest and impressing band members. With the acquisition of Ross Robinson, interest grew and the band began getting offers from record labels. On July 6, 1998 Welts was asked to leave the band becoming the first (and only) band member to be ultimately fired from the band. The reasons behind this are unclear, Chris Fehn replaced Welts on percussion and on July 8 they signed to Roadrunner Records.

In late 1998, Slipknot entered the recording studio to work on their debut album. In the early new year, guitarist Brainard decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. His replacement was Jim Root leaving the band with the line-up they retain. Recording finished in early 1999, and the band attended the Ozzfest which began in March. On June 29, 1999, the band released their eponymous album Slipknot. Regarding the album, Rick Anderson of Allmusic wrote "You thought Limp Bizkit was heavy? They're The Osmonds. Slipknot is something else entirely."

Slipknot included variations of previously released songs, including "(sic)"; a version of the previous song "Slipknot". These versions were faster than their previous recordings and this shift in intensity was welcomed by old fans. In the same year, Slipknot released their first home video Welcome to Our Neighborhood (which was later released on DVD in 2003). In early 2000, Slipknot was certified platinum, a first for an album released by Roadrunner Records. In July 2001, Q named Slipknot as one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time".

Anticipated follow up and side projects (2001–2003)

The band had created a huge fan base, and the expectations for their follow up album were great. They went back into the studio in early 2001 to work on a new album. Iowa, the band's second album with Roadrunner Records, was released on August 28, 2001. Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic said "It's really all you could ask for in a Slipknot album, and then some", and David Fricke of Rolling Stone called the album "the first great record of the nu metal era." It was also a commercial success, peaking at number three on the Billboard album charts, and at number one on the UK album chart. In mid-2001, the band once again toured with Ozzfest. The band also appeared in the concert scene of the 2002 movie Rollerball. In the same year, the BBC said that Slipknot stole the show and proved entertaining after the band performed at Reading Festival in England. In the same year Slipknot released their second visual output with the release of their DVD Disasterpieces.
2002 also saw the first serious musical projects for Slipknot members outside of the band. Lead vocalist Taylor and guitarist Root revived their band Stone Sour with the release of their eponymous debut album Stone Sour. Drummer Jordison also had his own project in which he took up the role of guitarist in the Murderdolls. Slipknot planned to work on a third album towards the end of 2002 but the band was experiencing problems. At this time there was rumours concerning whether the band had split and the possibility of a third album. By mid-2003 Crahan also had a new side project, To My Surprise, in which he worked with producer Rick Rubin.

Rebirth and hiatus (2003–2007)

It was the rebirth of Slipknot, you know what I mean it was like... us coming back together, pushing out the vibe that had gotten in there and kinda started pulling people away. But we figured out that you know, we do have to get space you know, we do need to let people be sometimes.

In late 2003, Slipknot began writing and recording with producer Rick Rubin, who had previously worked with artists such as Johnny Cash, System of a Down, and Slayer. The band released their third album, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) on May 24, 2004, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. Johnny Loftus of Allmusic called the album "a satisfying, carefully crafted representation of [the band's] career to date",while Robert Cherry of Rolling Stone said the album "experiments with even newer extremes, which in Slipknot's case means tunefulness and traditional song structures." The title of the album denotes that this is their third album, band members later mentioned that they do not consider Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. as an album which reflects the band. In 2004, the band toured on the Ozzfest for a third time, the same year they made their first appearance at Download Festival where Jordison replaced Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich after he was rushed to hospital. In 2005, Slipknot made live appearances without percussionist Crahan—who was supporting his wife during an illness—including their return to Download Festival.
Music sample:

They released their first live album, 9.0: Live which included recordings from shows in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Osaka, Singapore, and Tokyo. The album was released on November 1, 2005 and peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200. In 2006, the band won their first and only Grammy for Best Metal Performance with "Before I Forget". Later that year, Slipknot released their third DVD Voliminal: Inside the Nine.

Several members of the band collaborated with other artists on the Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions CD released in October 2005. On the record, Jordison was named a "team captain". Root, Taylor, and Gray also contributed to the album. In 2006, Root and Taylor once again returned with Stone Sour releasing their second album Come What(ever) May. Jordison drummed for several bands while on tour including; Ministry (2006) and Korn (2007). He also produced 3 Inches of Blood's third album Fire Up the Blades which was released in early 2007. Later in the year Crahan revealed a new side project, Dirty Little Rabbits.

Recent events (2008–present)

Slipknot are expected to release their fourth studio album All Hope Is Gone on August 26, 2008. Preparation for the album started in October 2007 with recording pushed back to February 2008. For this release the band has expressed an interest in making it their heaviest album to date with an expansion of the thrash metal riffing introduced on Vol. 3. However, they also want to make it their most experimental record, and will be including more acoustic guitars and melodic vocals, as well as introducing hi-hats and cymbals to the additional percussion. The album will be the band's first work with Dave Fortman as producer. Along with the album, the band have debuted "evolved" masks and uniforms, which match the style of the new album. Slipknot will headline the first ever Mayhem festival festival in July and August 2008. In addition, the band will be playing the Reading and Leeds Festival in August 2008.

The band's primary influences include Black Sabbath, Slayer, Judas Priest, Korn, AC/DC, Kiss and Beastie Boys. Death metal, and black metal, have been mentioned as a key influence on the band's musical direction alongside nu metal, the category the band is generally listed as. They have also stated that they are influenced by industrial bands like Head of David, Godflesh and Skinny Puppy as well as Neurosis and jungle music like Roni Size.

Slipknot are seen as pioneers of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal developing a lean and aggressive brand of metal formed from thrash, hardcore and death metal. In this they can be compared with groups such as Pantera, Machine Head, Biohazard, Life of Agony, and Prong and are known for often chaotic and energetic live shows. The extreme performance style provided by their large line-up featuring a typical heavily down-tuned guitar set-up (lead, rhythm, and bass guitars), two percussionists in addition to the primary drummer, and electronics (samplers and turntables). Robert Cherry of Rolling Stone compared the band's sound to "a threshing machine devouring a military drum corps".

Their early work hosted a diverse range of vocal styles, ranging from rapping to occasional singing to growled vocals. In more recent work, this vocal style remains present, but now includes more melodic singing. The lyrics generally follow a very aggressive tone and feature themes such as darkness, nihilism, anger, disaffection, love, misanthropy and psychosis. Rick Anderson of Allmusic regards the group's lyrics as "not generally quotable on a family website". There has been controversy surrounding Slipknot's lyrics, including a case in which a pair of young killers blamed the lyrics from the song "Disasterpiece" for their vicious crimeand a case in 2006 in which lyrics from the song "Surfacing" were found at the site of a grave robbing. However, the band has never faced official allegations that their lyrics incite violent or criminal behaviour.[citation needed]

Image and identities

It's our way of becoming more intimate with the music. It's a way for us to become unconscious of who we are and what we do outside of music. It's a way for us to kind of crawl inside it and be able to use it.

The band is known for its attention-grabbing image, the members wear matching uniform jumpsuits and homemade masks. In the past, their jumpsuits have featured large UPC barcodes printed on the back and sleeves, which are identical to the barcode on their album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. Aside from their real names, members of the band are referred to by numbers zero through eight.

With each new album, Slipknot has attained new masks and coveralls. The masks haven't changed dramatically with the release of their second and third albums, as the masks are more of an extension of what they previously were. Jordison addressed the issue in an interview in 2004, stating that the change in masks are to show growth and difference within age. During the music video and live performances of their single "Vermilion" the band change their respective masks to death masks made from casts of their own faces. Also in 2004, Gray claimed that the special effects company Screaming Mad George made their masks from their third album cycle, and pictures of the band's masks from their second album cycle can be found on the SMG website.

The masks have been subject of much criticism, generally thought of as a gimmick to try sell their product. The band however strongly object these claims, proclaiming that the masks are used to draw the attention away from themselves and to the music. Several members have said how the masks are a visual representation of how the music makes them feel and how they put the members in an animal-like mentality. The coveralls and numbers are an extension of their anti-image concept they created with the masks. The integrity of the masks is also a topic of criticism as band members have appeared outside of Slipknot without the masks. The issue has been addressed by most band members, percussionist Crahan specifically addressed the issue during an interview on The Sauce when discussing the release of their 2006 DVD Voliminal: Inside the Nine, proclaiming that the masks are always going to be part of the Slipknot show.[99]

The band's image has sparked controversy over the years. Some of the controversy comes from the band Mushroomhead, who, along with their fans, claim that Slipknot stole their image. In 2005, another source of controversy was the band's lawsuit against Burger King, claiming that company created the advertising based band Coq Roq to capitalize on Slipknot's image. The band's lawyer claimed that Burger King had contacted the band's label to get Slipknot to take part in an "advertising campaign designed to motivate young people to vote". Burger King responded to the suit with a countersuit, and in that suit pointed out that many other bands, such as Mudvayne, Kiss, and GWAR have used masks as part of their image, although after private discussions the advertising campaign was dropped.

Marilyn Manson Discography

Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson is a rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Advocates of nonconformity, and often utilising controversial imagery and lyrical content, the band is commonly described as shock rock. It is difficult to categorise the band, as it displays influences from many genres of hard rock, including industrial, heavy metal and glam rock. Each album thus far has had a distinct and individual sound, and the band and frontman endeavour to devise and use a unique image and aesthetic for each album's era . The band was formed in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as "Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids". The band's uniquely theatrical performances gathered a local cult following that subsequently developed into a worldwide fanbase.

Vendetta - Tirany Of Minority

Vendetta - Tirany Of Minority

VENDETTA was formed in early 2006 by guitarist Edward Box. An instrumentalist of considerable repute, Ed wanted to broaden his musical base and return to the roots of his obsession - traditional metal.
The sound of the pounding drums of Lamb, the driving bass of Foalle, the dual riffing and six string attack of Thompson and Box. It can mean only one thing - VENDETTA are on the warpath, hell bent on staking their claim in the pantheon of Metal. You're either for or against them, there's no inbetween.
Let the vengeance begin!

"The best British metal band to emerge in years." - Q Magazine

The Welsh metal-core band Bullet For My Valentine has spent most of the past two years taking over the world with massive U.K., European, U.S. and worldwide tours, sharing the stage with Guns N Roses, Metallica and Iron Maiden, playing the Main Stage at just about every rock festival on the planet, and seeing their 2006 debut album The Poison - an album London's daily The Sun called "One of the finest debut albums in rock history" - sell more than one-million copies worldwide – 350,000 in the U.S. alone – a very rare achievement for an emerging band.

Back home, Bullet For My Valentine has graced the covers of the UK's Kerrang!, Rock Sound, and Metal Hammer. They won Metal Hammer's 2006 “Golden God Award” for Best British Band, and the 2006 Kerrang! Award for “Best UK Single” for their track “Tears Don't Fall.” Here in America, Revolver magazine heralded the band “British Import of the Year,” and The Poison generated the hit singles “Tears Don't Fall” and “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me),” with the video for “All These Things I Hate” going to the 1 spot on MTV2. The band has toured North America three times, and in early 2007, they sold out their first headline trek.

On January 29, 2008, Bullet For My Valentine is set to return with Scream Aim Fire (20-20/Jive/SonyBMG), the band's highly anticipated sophomore release. The 11-track assault was produced by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Funeral For A Friend) and recorded at Sonic Ranch just outside of El Paso, TX in early 2007, and is, according to front man Matthew “Matt” Tuck, “really melodic heavy metal…catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals with the music being very in-your-face and heavy…it's a lot more up-tempo than The Poison, a lot more aggressive.”

Scream Aim Fire, featuring the distinctive and powerful six-string dexterity of Michael “Padge” Padget, the unwavering instrumental groove of bassist Jason “Jay” James and the relentless thundering rhythms of Michael “Moose” Thomas, the musical backbone of Bullet is an intimidating force. With a lifetime of classic metal inspiration behind him, vocalist/guitarist Tuck is a formidable and powerful voice for the ever energetic, young metal generation.

“We have stepped it up a gear,” says the front-man. “This album is chock full of classic Bullet ingredients. Metal riffs, pounding rhythms, shredding solos and great melodies. We took everything that we learnt from ‘The Poison,' and took up tenfold. Better, fresher, harder, sadder and more real.”

Opening with the aural assault of the title track and first single -“Scream Aim Fire” – to the hard-hitting riff slammer of “Waking The Demon,” and the arena-ballad epic “Hearts Burst Into Fire,” this album will definitely catapult Bullet into a world-wide spotlight.

“(The track) ‘Scream Aim Fire' set the benchmark for the rest of the album,” says Tuck. “It was the moment we realized the direction of where we wanted the record to go. Lyrically, it's not a saying that anyone can relate anything else to. It's ours and the meaning is ours alone. Kill or be killed – that's what this game is like. You're either on top of the game, or you are out, and we are very much still in. Our quality of song writing, our structures, our timing – the songs are intense and accessible, whilst still keeping our metal roots.”

Tuck believes that the band's unique accessibility lies in the fact that fans – regardless of age, gender or nationality – can relate to the subjects and issues tackled within their tracks.

“It's important to us that fans can make a connection with our songs,” says the front-man. “For example, ‘Waking The Demon' is about being bullied at school – which is something that me and most of the boys went though. The track is about one day, just turning round, and deciding to not take it anymore. I'd hope that our fans can relate to that.”

And despite the fact that these four musicians are now considered prominent players in the UK/European metal world, as well as serious up-and-comers here in the U.S. – the lads remain grounded (all still living in their native Welsh homeland) – and eternally grateful for the position that they now find themselves in.

“If it wasn't for the fans, we would never even have been able to make this second album,” says Tuck. “We are so thankful to them, and we will always try to deliver the goods. I know we had to cancel a load of shows last year (Tuck was hospitalized in the winter of 2006 and forced to undergo surgery on his tonsils), but it hurt us so much to do so. We really hated to let anyone down, but it was an unavoidable evil, and now I am confident that this record – and this band – are stronger than ever.”

To support the release of Scream Aim Fire, Bullet for My Valentine will set off on what will be more than two years of solid, worldwide touring, starting in the UK and Europe in January, 2008, and then coming to America beginning in late February.

“We are still so hungry for this,” states Tuck. “We are motivated and ambitious. We know where we want to be. We have played with legends and if we get to that level, it would be amazing. But you know what? If it ended tomorrow, we would still be happy. We are amazingly proud of what we have achieved and what we have done. We are having the time of our lives. The world is our oyster…”

2005 has been the year of Bullet For My Valentine. In the past twelve months, the Welsh four piece have exploded into worldwide prominence. Combining darkly crooned rock with earth shattering metal execution, the arena sized sound has taken over, radio, TV and live performances. Releasing their debut full-length “The Poison” in the UK, the album immediately shot to number one at rock radio. Known for their live vigor the group sold out a headlining tour through the UK, as well as high profile tours through Japan and a recent U.S. debut opening for Trustkill Records label-mates, It Dies Today.

Speaking on their recent streak of success, Matt Tuck, lithe and intense eyed vocalist and guitarist, is more matter of fact than arrogant when he says: “What separates us from most other bands is keeping our metal roots; keeping all of the aggressiveness and brutality that we’ve grown up on, but at the same time writing good songs.” Then his tongue slips firmly into his cheek as he adds: And when you put it all together in one good looking, young, 21st Century rock band, you can’t fail!”

To give you an idea of the band’s standing in their homeland, the group is currently gearing up for a headlining spot on an upcoming Kerrang Magazine sponsored tour with Hawthorne Heights supporting them! Of couse all of this momentum is not gathered without hard work and working so hard comes with a price. 24 hours before turning in a foundation rattling gig at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods, Tuck had been hospitalized for exhaustion.

“We’d just been doing too much”, says Matt. “My body just said ‘No more’ and packed in.” But the same protestant work ethic has taken its toll on the rest of the band as well. During a hectic and insanely well received tour of Japan, affable drummer, Michael ‘Moose’ Thomas contracted a potentially fatal strain of flu! “It was horrible”, says Moose “I was on a drip for a fortnight. I reckon I picked it up in those caves.”

“Those caves” were the Postojna Caves in Slovenia where they filmed the epic video to their last top 40 single “Suffocating Under The Words Of Sorrow (What Can I Do).” “It was the most heavy metal place you can imagine, underground with all these stalactites. But I thought they were going to snap off and spear me while I was playing”, adds the drummer. “It had Enter Traveller In To This Immensity carved in big letters in Latin over the entrance, it was mad”, adds laidback guitar man Michael ‘Padge’ Padget. While in the U.S. in November the band found time to film a video for the song “All These Things” from the Poison album. Look for the video on these shores in early 06.

The band composed of Tuck, Michael 'Padge' Padget (guitar), Michael 'Moose' Thomas (drums) or Jason 'Jay' James (bass) are childhood mates from the area of Bridgeend. This small area has also been home turf for such artists as LostProphets and Funeral For A Friend. Growing up on a steady diet of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Machine Head and rock like Guns N Roses the friends without James started a group in their pre-teen years called Jeff Killed John. That band struggled through musical growth and the hiccups that go along with starting a musical career for close to seven years. In that time the band played shitty gigs, pay for play affairs with little or no local support and sleeping in vans and floors. A little over two years ago, that group was about to enter the recording studio, when their bassist walked out on them. Rather than contuining on, the members recruited James and started a new band as Bullet For My Valentine, re-working their sound and musical ideas into a new beast. This group was signed at their second gig and quickly steam-rolled through the musical landscape.

Recently scoring covers for Metal Hammer and Kerrang in their homeland and upcoming profiles in Revolver, Penthouse Magazine and beyond. The band recently released their self-titled EP in the U.S. on Trustkill Records (it has sold over 20,000 copies so far!). The video for “Hand Of Blood” has just been added to MTV2. The band are prepping the U.S. release of The Poison for Valentine’s Day 2006. Let the massacre begin.
